While the words are still coming slowly, I am disappointed that America voted the way it did. However, I am an American first. In many ways, I have shattered the glass ceiling in my own life. I am proud of the person I am; at the end of the day I know that I embody what is good in this world. For now, that will have to be enough.
As tough as it is, I will not let the proverbial bastards get me down. I will continue to be a kind and inclusive person, I will continue to donate to PP and do what I can to make my family and community a safe and welcoming environment for all.
The system worked. It may not be fair, but life isn’t always fair. If the system needs to be changed, then let’s do it. But, today, as we enter into what appears to be unchartered waters, I hope we can all stick together and remember that we are Americans first. Every single one of us matters and brings something to the party. America has always been great and will continue to be. Let’s make the best of the position in which we are in; continue to fight vehemently for what each of us believes in and remember that we are stronger together than as individuals. As Obama said on election night, the sun is going to continue to rise. He’s right. What we choose to do with each day is up to us. I hope we choose to continue to move forward and be kind.
